Artist's statement

It’s through the accidental that we discover something about ourselves. That’s why I like to create art. I judge my own art based on balance and form and its effectiveness to introduce new ideas and stimulate emotion.  Overlaid photos are about aesthetics and creepitude.  Well balanced, yet distorted faces are meant to convey emotion, humor, or a deep thought. Art, to me, is about promoting the positive commonality of human beings.

The past few years, I’ve been dabbling in film photography.  There’s been a number of lessons learned, and I’m trying to keep track of the journey through my blog posts.  I find film a good way to slow things down in contrast to the high speed world we live in.  It just seems too easy to pull out our phones to take a picture.  Film forces delayed gratification and attention to quality since storage capacity is measured in frames, not megabytes.  I enjoy experimenting with different film and cameras, looking for a good scene to catch my eye, calculating and composing the shot, and patiently waiting to see the results.
